Pakistan Triumphs in First T20I Match
In a thrilling encounter at Lauderhill, Pakistan secured a narrow 14-run victory over the West Indies, thanks to a stellar performance by Mohammad Nawaz and a half-century from all-rounder Saim Ayub.
At just 23 years old, Saim Ayub was named Player of the Match for his impressive contributions with both bat and ball. Opening the batting for Pakistan, he scored a commendable 57 runs off 38 balls, which included five fours and two sixes, helping his team reach a total of 178 for 6.
Key Partnership Between Ayub and Zaman
Ayub formed a crucial 81-run partnership with Fakhar Zaman, who contributed 28 runs off 24 balls, stabilizing the innings after an early wicket. Late contributions from Hasan Nawaz (24 off 18) and Faheem Ashraf (16 off 9) provided the necessary momentum. Shamar Joseph was the standout bowler for the West Indies, taking 3 wickets for 30 runs, but Pakistan's strong start in the powerplay proved vital.
The West Indies began their chase positively, with openers Johnson Charles and debutant Jewel Andrew both scoring 35 runs. However, the match turned in the 12th over when Nawaz struck thrice, dismissing Charles, Andrew, and Motie in quick succession.
Ayub also made his mark with the ball, taking the wickets of Shai Hope (2) and Sherfane Rutherford (11), increasing the pressure on the West Indies. Although Jason Holder's explosive unbeaten 30 runs off just 12 balls threatened to snatch victory, Pakistan maintained their composure.
Nawaz finished with impressive bowling figures of 3 for 23, while Ayub capped off his all-round performance with 2 wickets for 20 runs, leading Pakistan to a morale-boosting win in the opening match of the series.
