Houston Open Highlights
Houston (USA), March 28: Sahith Theegala maintained his impressive form at the Houston Open PGA Tour, scoring a second consecutive round of 3-under 67. This performance places him in a tie for 11th position at 6-under par after two rounds in Houston, Texas, as of Friday night.
Another Indian-origin golfer, Sudarshan Yellamaraju, made notable strides, moving up to a tie for 20th at 5-under, following rounds of 69 and 66.
Leading the tournament is former U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland, who took charge with an outstanding 7-under 63 in the second round, totaling 12-under par. Woodland's impressive round included eight birdies on holes 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 16, 17, and 18, with only one bogey on the 13th.
A four-time PGA TOUR champion, Woodland has made a remarkable recovery after surgery to remove a brain lesion in September 2023. He made his return at the 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii and had previously finished tied for second at this event last year.
Overnight leader Paul Waring fell down the leaderboard after a 1-over 71, now tied with Theegala for 11th place. Theegala started his second round on the front nine, achieving back-to-back birdies on the 5th and 6th holes, but faced a setback with a bogey on the 8th. He regained his rhythm on the back nine, scoring birdies on the 13th and 16th, concluding with a solid 67.
Yellamaraju rebounded from a slow tournament start, delivering an impressive bogey-free 4-under 66, which included birdies on the 3rd, 8th, 10th, and 14th holes. The 24-year-old entered the week ranked just inside the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings.
Denmark's Nicolai Højgaard delivered the standout performance of the tournament thus far, shooting an 8-under 62 to tie for second at 10-under par, three shots behind Woodland. His round featured seven birdies, one eagle, and one bogey.
Jackson Suber is also tied for second at 10-under after a flawless 7-under 63, marked by seven birdies and no bogeys.
