Sachin Yadav's Impressive Performance

Gumi, South Korea - On May 31, India's Sachin Yadav showcased an outstanding performance at the Asian Athletics Championship, narrowly missing out on gold against Paris 2024 Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem. Despite his best efforts, Yadav earned a silver medal in the men's javelin throw event.

Yadav was just 1.24 meters shy of dethroning Nadeem, who clinched the gold with a remarkable throw of 86.40 meters. Yadav's personal best of 85.16 meters secured him the second position, improving upon his earlier best of 84.39 meters achieved at the National Games this year.

Another Indian athlete, Yashvir Singh, also excelled, achieving a personal best of 82.57 meters to finish fifth in the same event. Notably, Neeraj Chopra, India's javelin star and national record holder with a throw of 90.23 meters, did not compete in Gumi.

In the men's 200m final, Animesh Kujur made headlines by breaking the national record with a time of 20.32 seconds, earning a bronze medal. This achievement marks him as only the second Indian to reach the podium in this event at the Asian Athletics Championships, following Dharambir Singh's accomplishment in 2015.

Japan's Towa Uzawa took home the gold with a championship record of 20.12 seconds, while Saudi Arabia's Abdulaziz Atafi secured silver with a personal best of 20.31 seconds.

Unfortunately, India's hopes in the women's 200m final were dashed as Jyothi Yarraji and Nithya Gandhe finished fifth and seventh, respectively. China's Chen Yujie claimed the gold with a swift run of 22.97 seconds.
