A Moment of Glory for Indian Women's Blind Cricket
Mumbai: Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar expressed his admiration for the Indian women’s blind cricket team, who recently triumphed in the T20 Blind Cricket World Cup, emphasizing that their resilience has transformed the way the sport is perceived.
The Indian women's blind cricket team made history by clinching the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, defeating Nepal by seven wickets in the final match. During the game held at the P Sara Oval in Colombo, India restricted Nepal to a score of 114/5 and successfully chased it down with three wickets remaining in just 12.1 overs.
On Wednesday, the team had the honor of meeting Sachin Tendulkar at the MIG Club in Mumbai.
Following their meeting, Tendulkar shared an Instagram story praising the young athletes who have brought pride to India.
He remarked, “Most have eyesight, but only a few possess true vision. I had the privilege of meeting these extraordinary young women who are visually challenged and have made India proud.”
Tendulkar continued, “Their bravery, discipline, and faith demonstrate that the game is not just played but felt. Nothing should stop anyone from claiming it as their own. Their determination has reshaped how we view the sport, and they have inspired future generations to believe that no dream is unattainable.”
He concluded his post with congratulations to the entire team and their support staff for winning the first-ever T20 Women’s World Cup for visually impaired players.
Earlier, Tendulkar praised the players for their unwavering spirit, noting that they had faced significant challenges to achieve their dreams and ultimately win the World Cup. He highlighted that their dedication and hard work would be celebrated long after the tournament. He also recognized the vital support from the players’ families, especially their parents, who provided encouragement and freedom, allowing them to excel in the sport.
Deepika TC, the captain of the Indian women’s blind cricket team, expressed her joy, stating, “Meeting Sachin Sir was a dream come true. We have always played with passion and belief, but his encouraging words have deeply touched us. This moment will remain with us forever and inspire us to elevate Indian cricket even further.”
Sachin also took the time to sign autographs for all the players and posed for photographs with them. The players presented him with an autographed bat as a token of appreciation.
Dr. G.K. Mahantesh, President of the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI), remarked, “Sachin Tendulkar meeting our World Cup-winning women’s team is a moment we will treasure forever. His support means more than words can convey for our players. When a legend like him acknowledges their journey, it instills immense confidence, not just in this team but throughout the blind cricket community in India.”
