SA20 League: A New Era for South African Cricket
SA20: A Remarkable Experience for South African Cricket
Allan Donald, a former cricketer from South Africa, has lauded the SA20 league, stating it is "as good as it gets" for cricket in the nation. While he recognizes that it may not rival the grandeur of India's Indian Premier League (IPL), he emphasized that the true spirit of the league is best felt in person rather than through a screen. During the ongoing SA20 2025-26 season, Donald noted that the tournament's atmosphere is reminiscent of the IPL, showcasing the pinnacle of domestic T20 cricket in South Africa, where established stars meet promising young players.
A Platform for Rising Stars
Donald also pointed out the rise of 19-year-old fast bowler Nqobani Mokoena, who has emerged as a notable talent in the league. He expressed his surprise at Mokoena's rapid ascent, having not known him prior to this season. Now, the young bowler is competing against elite players, which Donald described as a remarkable journey. "Mokoena has come from obscurity to shine on this grand stage, and it's truly special. I hope the tournament continues to expand and flourish," he remarked.
So far in the current SA20 season, Mokoena has participated in six matches, taking nine wickets with an impressive average of 21.44, placing him among the top wicket-takers.
