In a thrilling match at Wankhede Stadium, Ryan Rickelton achieved his first century in the Indian Premier League (IPL), propelling the Mumbai Indians (MI) to a remarkable total of 243 runs for 5 wickets against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Wednesday.


Rickelton opened the innings with an impressive unbeaten score of 123 runs off just 55 deliveries, featuring 10 fours and 8 sixes. This performance set a new record for the highest team total at Wankhede in IPL history, surpassing the previous record of 240 runs set by RCB earlier this season.


Dominant Opening Partnership

Choosing to bat first, MI's opening pair of Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton capitalized on the favorable batting conditions. They raced to 78 runs without losing a wicket by the end of the Powerplay.


Jacks contributed 46 runs off 22 balls, aggressively attacking the SRH bowlers, including a 16-run over against Harsh Dubey. Rickelton followed suit, scoring 17 runs off Sakib Hussain in the next over.


The duo formed a solid 93-run partnership before Jacks was dismissed on the first ball of the eighth over, giving SRH their first breakthrough.


Middle Overs Strategy

Despite the loss of Jacks, Rickelton continued to dominate, hitting two boundaries and a six in one over, bringing MI to 110 runs for 1 wicket after 8 overs.

This century not only marked Rickelton's personal achievement but also set the record for the highest individual score for MI, surpassing Sanath Jayasuriya's 114* against CSK in 2008. Additionally, he became the fastest centurion for MI and the second wicketkeeper to score a century for the team, following Quinton de Kock.
