Gaikwad's Decision to Withdraw

New Delhi [India], July 19: Indian opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has decided to cancel his contract with Yorkshire and will not participate in the remaining County Championship matches due to personal matters.

Yorkshire had announced last month that they had secured Gaikwad, the captain of Chennai Super Kings, for the remainder of the season. He was also set to play in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

Gaikwad was expected to make his debut at North Marine Road against Surrey, the defending champions, on Tuesday. However, Yorkshire's head coach, Anthony McGrath, confirmed on Saturday that Gaikwad would be returning home and that they were looking for a replacement due to the impending match.

“Unfortunately, Gaikwad will not be joining us for personal reasons. He won't be available for the Scarborough match or the rest of the season, which is disappointing. I can't disclose the reasons, but we hope everything is alright. We just learned about this,” McGrath stated after Yorkshire's exciting Vitality Blast victory over Leicestershire.

“We are actively exploring options for a replacement, but with only a few days left, time is of the essence. I can't provide further details at this moment,” he added.

Prior to his Yorkshire signing, Gaikwad's IPL season was cut short due to an injury. He was later included in the India A squad for their ongoing tour in England, but did not make it to the final XI in either of the unofficial Tests.

The Pune native has made a name for himself with six international ODI appearances and 23 T20I matches, showcasing his ability to bat in various positions within the top order.
