Ruturaj Gaikwad's Journey to the County Championship

Ruturaj Gaikwad has not been selected for the Indian squad for the upcoming tour of England. Nevertheless, he is gearing up for his flight to England. The Indian team is set to kick off a Test series against England on June 20, and Gaikwad will be seen participating in the County Championship starting July 22. He has signed with Yorkshire for the entire season of the County Championship. Gaikwad had to withdraw from IPL 2025 due to an injury, resulting in his team finishing last and being eliminated from the playoff race early. Despite expectations for his selection based on his domestic performance, he was ultimately not chosen for the Test team.

This emerging star now has the opportunity to showcase his skills in the County Championship. On June 10, 2025, Yorkshire County Cricket Club announced that the 28-year-old Indian opener has been signed as a foreign player for the 2025 season. Gaikwad will compete for Yorkshire in both the County Championship and the Metro Bank One Day Cup from July 22 until the end of the season.

Gaikwad has attracted attention with his impressive performances in domestic cricket and the IPL. He made his first-class debut in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy and has been leading the Maharashtra team since then. His first-class batting average stands at 41.77, which includes seven centuries, while his List A average of 56.15, along with 16 centuries, highlights his potential.
