Ruturaj Gaikwad Reflects on CSK's Struggles in IPL 2026
Match Overview
Ruturaj Gaikwad: In the IPL 2026 match last night, Chennai Super Kings faced off against Punjab Kings, where CSK managed to score 209 runs thanks to explosive innings from Ayush Mhatre and Shivam Dube. However, Punjab Kings successfully chased down the target, losing only 5 wickets.
So far in IPL 2026, Chennai Super Kings have played two matches, both at home, but unfortunately, they have lost both. Following these defeats, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has shared insights into the team's challenges.
Ruturaj Gaikwad Expresses Frustration After Consecutive Losses
After facing back-to-back defeats, Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed his thoughts, stating:
“Honestly, I felt it was a good score. Yes, the pitch was better for fast bowlers, but I thought it had some grip for spinners, and the ball wasn't coming onto the bat well. Slow balls were gripping too. So, considering the size of the boundaries, I believed it was a solid score for this ground.”
Regarding the decision to bring in Rahul Chahar as an impact substitute, Gaikwad mentioned:
“Yes, we thought having three seamers and two good wrist spinners bowling together, especially after the powerplay, would help. However, both had off days, which I believe cost us.”
On the team's bowling performance, he added:
“I think it was a mix. At times we performed well, but we also failed to deliver at crucial moments. When the overs were going well, we conceded boundaries. I believe we couldn't build the pressure. There was a point when the score reached 11 runs per over, and after that, we had some good overs. The score could have escalated to 12 or 13. That's how momentum builds, and we lost that rhythm in between.”
Praise for Batting Performance
Ruturaj Gaikwad also commended his batsmen, stating:
“It was definitely a tough match, but as I mentioned, there were many positives. The batting was quite good. Ayush played brilliantly, and having him in the team boosts confidence for the upcoming seasons. Shivam also batted well. So yes, our batting confidence was solid.”
Reflecting on his own batting, he remarked:
“Regarding bowling, yes, there is a lot of room for improvement. (On my batting) I felt good. It’s just about adapting to my role and doing what’s necessary for the team. Today, I thought I should have batted a bit longer since the pitch was gripping. I believed Ayush was playing well, so I thought I could stick around a bit longer and then score runs, but unfortunately, I got out at the wrong time.”
