Nagoya, Sep 22: Roshibina Devi from India has clinched her third medal at the Asian Games, achieving a decisive 5-0 victory against Chu Man Sin from Macao, China, in the Women's 60kg quarterfinals held at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall on Tuesday.
Having previously medaled in the 2018 and 2022 Asian Games, Roshibina's latest triumph marks her third medal at this continental event. She advanced to the semifinals after winning by point difference. Earlier, she had triumphed over Bangladesh's Shika Khatun in the pre-quarterfinals on Monday, paving her way to the quarterfinals. This victory represents India's first confirmed medal in Wushu at the current Asian Games.
Roshibina is set to compete in the semifinals on Wednesday, aiming for a spot in the finals. She previously earned a silver medal in the 2023 Asian Games in the Sanda 60 kg category and a bronze in the same weight class during the 2018 Jakarta Games.
In addition to Roshibina, India's Aryan has also progressed to the quarterfinals, having defeated Afghanistan's Safi Shahzada 2-0 in the Men's 56kg pre-quarterfinals.
Earlier in the day, Hanjabam Langlentombi Devi from India secured ninth place in the Women's Nanquan & Nandao Final with a score of 18.839.
On Monday, Nyeman Wangsu from India finished 15th in the Women's Changquan final. Indian wushu athletes have demonstrated commendable performances, with Suraj Singh Mayanglambam narrowly missing a podium finish on Sunday.
Suraj placed 11th in the Men's Changquan Wushu final, falling short of the podium by just 0.040 points in a tightly contested event. Competing against 21 athletes at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall, Suraj achieved a total score of 9.683 points, earning a perfect 5.00 in Quality of Movement (A-Score) and 2.00 in Degree of Difficulty (C-Score), with no deductions. His Overall Performance (B-Score) was rated at 2.683.
Macau's Kuong Chi Hin took the top spot with 9.723 points, while fellow compatriot Chi Kuan Song secured second place with 9.720. The narrow margins at the top highlighted the competitiveness of the final, with Suraj's score just 0.040 points shy of the bronze medal.
