Ronaldo Leads Portugal to Comeback Victory Over Germany in Nations League Semifinal
Portugal Triumphs with Ronaldo's Historic Goal
Cristiano Ronaldo once again showcased his prowess as he led Portugal to a 2-1 comeback victory against Germany in the Nations League semifinal. The 40-year-old forward, who captained the team, netted his 137th international goal just five minutes after Francisco Conceição leveled the score with a powerful shot in the 63rd minute.
With this goal, Ronaldo made history as the oldest player to score against Germany, breaking a five-match winless streak against them. Previously, he had faced Germany five times without a victory.
The match saw Liverpool target Florian Wirtz put Germany ahead with a well-placed header in the 48th minute. However, Portugal's coach Roberto Martínez made impactful substitutions, bringing on Conceição and Champions League winner Vitinha, who played a crucial role in the team's performance.
Vitinha, fresh from his Champions League triumph with Paris Saint-Germain just days earlier, helped Portugal dominate the latter stages of the match. Germany's goalkeeper, Marc-André ter Stegen, had to be at his best to keep the scoreline from widening.
Portugal's lineup featured PSG wing backs João Neves and Nuno Mendes, while Stuttgart's Nick Woltemade made his debut for Germany. Conceição made an immediate impact, scoring a stunning long-range goal after outpacing Robin Gosens, followed by Mendes assisting Ronaldo for a straightforward finish.
In the other semifinal, France is set to face Spain in Stuttgart on Thursday.
