On July 6, 2019, he achieved the remarkable feat of scoring five centuries in a single edition of the 50-over World Cup. This milestone was accomplished during India's last group stage match against Sri Lanka at Headingley, Leeds. Prior to this match, Rohit had already amassed scores of 122*, 140, 102, and 104 against South Africa, Pakistan, England, and Bangladesh, respectively. Out of these four matches, India secured victories in three, with their only defeat coming against the eventual champions, England.

In the 2023 ODI World Cup, Virat Kohli surpassed all records by scoring 765 runs, making him the highest run-scorer in a single edition of the tournament, exceeding Sachin Tendulkar's previous record of 673 runs. In a match against Sri Lanka, Kohli scored 103 runs off 94 balls, helping India successfully chase a target of 265 runs with seven wickets and 39 balls remaining. KL Rahul also contributed with a century, while Angelo Mathews' century in the first innings was overshadowed. Rohit Sharma's innings included 14 fours and two sixes, earning him the Player of the Match award.

Setting New Records

With his fifth century in the tournament, Rohit broke the previous record held by Kumar Sangakkara, who had scored four centuries in the 2015 ODI World Cup.
