Rohit Sharma's Golden Duck Overshadows Kohli's Stellar Performance in Vijay Hazare Trophy
Rohit Sharma's Disappointing Start
In Jaipur, former Indian captain Rohit Sharma faced a disappointing start, getting out for a golden duck during Mumbai's innings against Uttarakhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Elite Group C match on Friday. He was caught at deep fine leg by Jagmohan Nagarkoti off the bowling of Akash Madhwal Bora, who is a right-arm medium pacer, on the last ball of the opening over after Nagarkoti initially fumbled the catch.
The 38-year-old opener had made a remarkable return to domestic cricket just days earlier, scoring a century off 62 balls against Sikkim in his first Vijay Hazare Trophy match in seven years. He followed that performance with an impressive 155 runs off 98 balls in Mumbai's successful chase.
This century marked Rohit's 37th in List A cricket, adding to his impressive record of 33 international centuries for India.
Virat Kohli Shines for Delhi
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli continued to showcase his exceptional form for Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring a quickfire 77 runs against Gujarat in an Elite Group D match held in Bengaluru. His innings included 14 boundaries, and he formed a solid 72-run partnership for the second wicket with Arpit Rana, along with contributing 24 runs with Nitish Rana and a brief 10-run partnership with Rishabh Pant before being dismissed by Vishal Jayswal in the 22nd over.
In a previous match against Andhra Pradesh at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence, Kohli reached a significant milestone by scoring his first run in the chase of 299, thus surpassing 16,000 runs in List A cricket. This achievement makes him only the second Indian, after the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, to reach this landmark in List A formats. Despite his illustrious career, Kohli is still in pursuit of Tendulkar’s record of 60 centuries in List A cricket, currently holding 57 centuries.
Kohli's last participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy was during the 2010-11 season when he captained Delhi. After a long hiatus, he returned to the tournament this season, having last played in the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy in 2013-14.
