Rohit Sharma's Transition from Test Cricket

Indian cricket star Rohit Sharma has officially announced his retirement from Test cricket, signaling a shift in his focus towards the future of his international career. Following his exit from T20 Internationals after India's triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup, Rohit is now setting his sights on the 2027 ODI World Cup.

He shared the news of his Test retirement on May 7 through an Instagram post during the IPL season, confirming his commitment to One Day Internationals as he concentrates solely on the 50-over format.

Reflecting on Past Challenges

In a recent conversation with journalist Vimal Kumar, Rohit reflected on India's heartbreaking loss in the 2023 ODI World Cup final. Despite remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament, India fell short against Australia, missing out on the coveted title. With his retirement from both T20I and Test formats, Rohit is now fully dedicated to the upcoming ODI World Cup scheduled to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, viewing the potential victory as a significant achievement.

Rohit's Impressive ICC Record

To date, Rohit has secured four ICC titles, including two T20 World Cups (2007, 2024) and two Champions Trophies (2013, 2024), with two of these victories achieved under his captaincy. However, he has yet to clinch the World Test Championship, despite leading his team to the finals in 2023. Although he was not part of the 2011 World Cup-winning squad, Rohit played crucial roles in the 2015, 2019, and 2023 World Cups, leading an undefeated Indian team to the final in 2023 before their defeat to Australia.

Rohit's ODI Achievements and Current Form

The Mumbai batter has been exceptional in ODIs, amassing an impressive total of 11,168 runs across 273 matches, boasting an average of 48.77, with 32 centuries and three double centuries to his name. His record of 264 runs remains the highest individual score in ODIs. Currently, he is competing with the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025, where he has performed well this season, scoring 300 runs in 11 matches at an average of 30.00 and a strike rate of 152.28, including three fifties.
