New Delhi: Rohit Sharma, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, has expressed his heartfelt appreciation after receiving the Padma Shri, one of India's most prestigious civilian awards. He described this recognition as a significant moment for both himself and his family, affirming his commitment to continue leading India to victory.
Rohit referred to the award as a deeply meaningful occasion, extending his gratitude to the Indian government and all those who have supported him throughout his cricketing journey.
In a video shared by Doordarshan Sports on X, he stated, “Receiving the Padma Shri is a very special moment for my family and me. I thank the Government of India for this honour. I am also grateful to all those people who have played an important role in my career. My effort to win matches and trophies for my country will always continue. Thank you. Jai Hind.”

Rohit Sharma, who debuted internationally in 2007, has consistently excelled in all formats of the game over the past 19 years. His impact on Indian cricket is profound, both as a player and a captain.
Under his captaincy, India has celebrated significant achievements on the world stage, including winning the T20 World Cup in 2024 against South Africa, marking a long-awaited ICC title in the shortest format. The following year, India also secured the Champions Trophy in 2025, further solidifying Rohit's reputation as a successful leader.
In addition to his captaincy accolades, Rohit boasts an impressive batting record. He has scored over 4,300 runs in 67 Test matches, including 12 centuries. In One-Day Internationals, he has accumulated more than 11,500 runs in 282 matches, with 33 centuries to his credit. His T20 International record includes over 4,231 runs, featuring five centuries, making him one of the top performers in this format.
