Rohit Sharma Breaks ODI Sixes Record Against South Africa
Historic Achievement in ODI Cricket
On Sunday, Indian opener Rohit Sharma surpassed Pakistan's Shahid Afridi to become the player with the most sixes in One Day International (ODI) cricket history, achieving a total of 352 sixes during the first ODI against South Africa. Prior to this series, Rohit had already hit 349 sixes.
Afridi, who played from 1996 to 2015, managed to hit 351 sixes in 398 ODI matches. Rohit equaled Afridi's record by hitting two consecutive sixes off South African spinner Prenelan Subrayen in the 15th over, and then broke the record by pulling a delivery from Marco Jansen to deep square leg, achieving this milestone in significantly fewer innings.
Since his debut in 2007, Rohit accomplished this feat in his 270th innings out of 278 matches for India. He reached his 60th ODI half-century before being dismissed leg before wicket off Jansen's delivery.
During his innings of 57 runs off 50 balls, Rohit struck three sixes and five fours, forming a solid partnership of 136 runs for the second wicket with Virat Kohli off 109 balls, giving India a strong start.
