Rohit Sharma's Upcoming ODI Challenge

Rohit Sharma is on the verge of achieving another significant milestone. The former Indian captain, widely regarded as one of the finest white-ball openers of his generation, is just a few runs away from claiming one of the most coveted records in ODI cricket. On Wednesday, December 3, he will take the field against South Africa in the second ODI, aiming to reach a remarkable career landmark. Having found his form in this series, Rohit scored 57 runs off 51 balls at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi, bringing his total runs in international cricket to 19,959 across 503 matches. If he manages to score 41 runs in Raipur, the 38-year-old will become only the fourth Indian and the 14th player overall to achieve this feat.

Chasing Records

Rohit also has the opportunity to surpass South African legend AB de Villiers, who holds the record with 20,014 runs. To eclipse De Villiers, Rohit needs to score 56 runs on Wednesday.

At home, Rohit is close to reaching another milestone, having accumulated 4,924 runs in ODIs and 8,991 runs in international cricket within India. He requires 76 and 9 runs, respectively, to hit these targets. If he scores 14 runs in Raipur, he will surpass Rahul Dravid's home record of 9,004 runs.

Pitch Conditions and Match Expectations

It will be intriguing to see how the pitch in Raipur behaves for the second ODI, especially after a successful first ODI in Ranchi where both teams enjoyed batting on that surface. Historically, Raipur has hosted only one ODI, where New Zealand was bowled out for 108 runs in 2023.

With both Rohit and Virat Kohli, seasoned professionals, back in action, fans and teams alike hope for a batting-friendly surface while also providing some assistance to the bowlers.

South Africa's Strategy

South Africa will draw confidence from their middle and lower-order resurgence, although they may not have enough strength to secure a win. With captain Temba Bavuma returning, the Proteas will aim to level the series in this crucial match on Wednesday.
