Rohit Sharma Reaches 12,000 Runs in ODIs

Guwahati: On Wednesday, Rohit Sharma made history by becoming the seventh player and the third Indian to score 12,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs) during the second ODI against the West Indies.

This remarkable achievement came in his 291st ODI match, where he also secured his 35th century, reaching the milestone in just 72 balls while chasing a daunting target of 406 runs set by the West Indies.

In addition, captain Shubman Gill celebrated his 11th ODI century in the same match.

Rohit's innings featured 10 boundaries and six sixes, marking his second century in just three games at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

At 39 years old, the former captain focuses solely on the 50-over format as he prepares for the upcoming ODI World Cup next year, boasting an impressive average of nearly 50 and 62 half-centuries in ODIs.

With this achievement, Rohit joins the ranks of cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar, who has 18,426 runs, and Virat Kohli, who reached 15,000 runs in the series opener in Thiruvananthapuram.

Rohit now stands seventh among the highest run-scorers in ODI history, with Tendulkar and Kohli leading the list.

Kumar Sangakkara from Sri Lanka holds the third position with 14,234 runs, followed by Ricky Ponting from Australia with 13,704 runs.

Sanath Jayasuriya (13,430) and Mahela Jayawardene (12,650) from Sri Lanka occupy the fifth and sixth spots, respectively.
