On Saturday, Rohit Sharma, a prominent figure in Indian cricket, reached a significant career milestone by becoming the second Indian opener, following Virender Sehwag, to accumulate 16,000 international runs across all formats.

This achievement occurred during the first ODI against Afghanistan in Dharamsala, where Rohit needed just six runs at the beginning of his innings to hit this landmark. He accomplished this feat in his 384th innings as an opener.

Starting the match with 15,994 international runs, Rohit has now solidified his reputation as one of India's most successful opening batsmen across formats.

He joins an elite group of legendary openers in cricket history, including Sanath Jayasuriya, Chris Gayle, David Warner, Graeme Smith, Desmond Haynes, and Virender Sehwag. Jayasuriya tops the all-time list with 19,298 runs, followed by Gayle with 18,867 and Warner with 18,744.

Among Indian openers, Sehwag holds the record with 16,119 runs from 400 innings in 332 matches, while Rohit has now reached 16,010 runs, marking his ascent among the modern cricket greats.

India's Commanding Victory

In the same match, Shubman Gill's impressive unbeaten score of 84, along with three wickets each from debutants Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey, led India to a convincing seven-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.

After Brar and Dubey effectively bowled Afghanistan out for 194 runs in just 24.5 overs during a rain-affected 25-over match, India's batting lineup showcased a mix of aggression and steadiness, successfully chasing down the target of 195 runs to secure the win.
