Following Shubman Gill's appointment as the Test captain for Team India, former cricketer Robin Uthappa expressed doubts about his leadership during the IPL. Uthappa, who now works as a commentator, noted that the Gujarat Titans appeared to be more reactive than proactive under Gill's guidance. Uthappa remarked, "The strategy employed by GT seemed more reactive than proactive. Opting to use Prasidh during the powerplay, despite his effectiveness in the middle overs, was a significant error. His initial over was costly, and they failed to adjust their approach. The overs yielding 26 and 22 runs were detrimental. Additionally, their fielding performance was subpar; dropping numerous catches makes it hard to secure a championship victory."
