Riyan Parag's Frustration Surfaces During IPL Match Against KKR

Riyan Parag's Outburst on the Field

During an IPL 2025 match on May 4 at Eden Gardens, Riyan Parag, the interim captain of Rajasthan Royals, displayed visible frustration as he reprimanded teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal. This incident occurred on the third ball of the 10th over of Kolkata Knight Riders' innings. Parag delivered a wide ball outside off, prompting Angkrish Raghuvanshi to attempt a big shot towards long off. Jaiswal made a commendable effort, sprinting to his left to prevent a boundary.

Despite Jaiswal's quick reflexes, Parag was evidently upset, believing that the KKR batsmen should have settled for a single. He expressed his displeasure with some choice words directed at Jaiswal's fielding. This season has not been particularly fruitful for Parag, who has accumulated 282 runs in 12 matches at a strike rate of 160, alongside just two wickets. This follows a standout 2024 season where he amassed 573 runs in 16 games.

On the other hand, Jaiswal has been in remarkable form, scoring 439 runs in 12 matches, including five half-centuries, with an average nearing 44 and a strike rate of 154.

In the match against KKR, Rajasthan Royals batted first after Ajinkya Rahane won the toss. RR pacer Yudhvir Singh dismissed Sunil Narine (11) in the second over. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (35) and Rahane (30) contributed significantly, adding 56 runs to stabilize the innings.

Rahane continued to build momentum with a 42-run partnership with Raghuvanshi, who scored 44 runs off 31 balls. Andre Russell's explosive innings of 57 runs off just 25 balls, along with a 61-run partnership with Raghuvanshi, propelled KKR's total to 206 runs.

Rinku Singh also made a notable impact with a quickfire 19* off 6 balls, contributing to a rapid 34-run partnership with Russell in just 11 balls. RR bowlers, including Jofra Archer, Yudhvir Singh, Riyan Parag, and Maheesh Theekshana, each took a wicket. Notably, Russell became the third player to surpass 1000 IPL runs at Eden Gardens during his innings.
