Riyan Parag Penalized for Smoking Incident During IPL Match
Riyan Parag Faces Fine for Controversial Smoking Incident
Riyan Parag, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, has recently found himself in the spotlight due to a controversy. A video surfaced on social media showing him smoking in the dressing room, leading to widespread speculation about potential disciplinary action. The IPL has now taken a firm stance on the matter, officially announcing a penalty.
25% Match Fee Fine Imposed
The incident occurred during the 40th match of the IPL between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings. In the video, Parag was seen vaping in the dressing room. As a result, the IPL has deemed him guilty and imposed a fine of 25% of his match fee. Additionally, he has received one demerit point. According to the board, Parag violated Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to behavior that harms the image of the sport.
First Offense, Yet a Strong Message
Reports indicate that Rajasthan Royals acquired Parag for approximately ₹14 crores this season. This translates to a match fee of around ₹1 crore, making the 25% fine roughly ₹25 lakhs. Although this is considered his first offense, the IPL has adopted a strict approach to send a strong message to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Strong Position in Points Table
Despite the controversy, Rajasthan Royals have performed well this season. They have won 6 out of the 9 matches played so far, securing 12 points and holding the fourth position in the points table. In the match where the incident occurred, Rajasthan also triumphed over Punjab Kings by 6 wickets. Their next match is scheduled against Delhi on May 1, where they will aim to maintain their winning momentum.
