Rishabh Pant Shines Despite Injury in Fourth Test

New Delhi, July 25: Renowned Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar praised wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant for his incredible determination as he took to the crease on the second day of the fourth Test in the ongoing five-match series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 at Old Trafford, Manchester.

After Shardul Thakur was dismissed for 41 runs, Pant entered the field to a roaring ovation from the Manchester crowd.

He scored an impressive 54 runs off 75 deliveries, featuring three boundaries and two sixes.

On social media platform X, Tendulkar expressed, "Resilience is about playing through pain and rising above it. @RishabhPant17 demonstrated remarkable character by returning to the game despite an injury and delivering such a performance. His fifty serves as a powerful reminder of the grit and determination required to represent one’s country. A commendable effort that will be remembered for years to come. Well played, Rishabh!"

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also took to Instagram to commend Pant, stating, "True spirit shows up when the spirit is indomitable! Injury can shake the body but not the mind, good stuff @rishabhpant."

Pant continued to impress fans and break records, even while battling through pain.

He equaled the legendary Virender Sehwag's record for the most sixes hit by an Indian in Test cricket, with both players now having 90 sixes in the longest format.

Pant's fearless batting style has him tied with Sehwag at the top, while India’s captain Rohit Sharma is close behind with 88 sixes. MS Dhoni follows with 78, and Ravindra Jadeja rounds out the top five with 74 sixes.

Additionally, Pant surpassed Rohit Sharma to become India’s leading run-scorer in the World Test Championship (WTC) era, amassing 2731 runs in just 38 Test matches, which includes six centuries and sixteen fifties. Rohit has 2719 runs in the WTC.

Pant's achievement is particularly noteworthy given that he returned to bat on Thursday despite suffering a painful toe injury on Day 1, making a significant impact.

Following his fifty in Manchester, Pant now has 14 scores of fifty or more, while Dhoni has thirteen. The left-handed batter has recorded six centuries and eight fifties.
