Pant's Stellar Start in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy

On June 20, during the inaugural day of the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Headingley, Leeds, Rishabh Pant made headlines by scoring an impressive unbeaten 65 runs. His performance was pivotal as India concluded the day at a robust 359/3, bolstered by centuries from teammates Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill.

Pant's innings was particularly significant given his recent struggles in the IPL 2025 season, where his form had come under scrutiny. This remarkable display served as a reminder of his status as one of India's premier match-winners in Test cricket. As the vice-captain, he stepped up when the team needed him most.

Milestone Achievements for Pant

In this innings, Pant reached a remarkable milestone, becoming the second Indian wicket-keeper after MS Dhoni to accumulate 3000 Test runs. He achieved this feat in just 76 innings, surpassing Kumar Sangakkara's previous record of 78 innings, making him the fastest Asian to reach this landmark. Only Adam Gilchrist, who did it in 63 innings, achieved it quicker.

Pant's average of 43.04 places him third among wicket-keepers with over 3000 Test runs, trailing only Andy Flower and Alec Stewart.

Breaking Dhoni's Record in SENA Nations

Additionally, Pant set a new record for the most Test runs by a foreign wicket-keeper in SENA nations (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia), overtaking MS Dhoni's long-standing record.

In these countries, Pant has amassed 1746 runs in 49 innings, while Dhoni had 1731 runs in 60 innings. Adam Gilchrist follows with 1531 runs in just 32 innings.

Pant's Growing Legacy

This record only accounts for matches played away from home, excluding runs scored in home games for these nations. Pant has also recorded four centuries in SENA countries, the highest by any Asian wicket-keeper and the second-highest overall. He is closing in on Dhoni's record for the most runs by a visiting keeper in England, having already scored two Test centuries there, more than any other visiting wicket-keeper.
