Rishabh Pant's Transition to Delhi Capitals

Rishabh Pant, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), is poised to make a return to Delhi Capitals (DC) for the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL), albeit with a significant salary reduction of ₹12 crore, as confirmed by sources.

The Lucknow Super Giants are preparing to release Pant, who is anticipated to rejoin his previous team, Delhi Capitals, in a trade valued at ₹15 crore (approximately $1.5 million). LSG had acquired him for a record ₹27 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction. The two franchises are currently finalizing the deal, which will need the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) approval for completion.

Significant Pay Cuts in IPL Trades

This move marks Pant as the second prominent player, following Ravindra Jadeja, to accept a considerable pay cut during an IPL trade. Previously, a significant exchange took place between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals involving Jadeja and Sanju Samson ahead of IPL 2026, which included adjustments in contract valuations.

Pant's Performance with Lucknow Super Giants

Pant's tenure with LSG spanned two seasons but yielded disappointing outcomes. Under his leadership, the team recorded 10 victories against 18 defeats, with Pant accumulating 581 runs at an average of 26.4 and a strike rate of 135.74.

Before joining LSG, Pant had captained DC for four seasons but was released prior to the 2025 auction, where he was signed by LSG for an impressive ₹27 crore. After a lackluster performance in the 2026 IPL season, where LSG finished at the bottom of the table with only four wins out of 14 matches, Pant stepped down as captain.
