Rishabh Pant Matches Sachin Tendulkar's Record with Twin Centuries in England

Rishabh Pant's Historic Performance
Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has made headlines by matching the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's record after scoring two centuries during the Test match in England. His impressive innings of 134 and 118 at Headingley brought his total to four centuries in England, placing him alongside Tendulkar and Dilip Vengsarkar. Only Rahul Dravid surpasses Pant with six centuries in England.
Pant's remarkable second innings raised his total runs in the match to 252, setting a new record for an Indian wicketkeeper in a single Test. The previous record was held by Budhi Kunderan, who scored 230 against England in Chennai back in 1964. Pant now ranks second only to Zimbabwe's Andy Flower for the highest match aggregate by a designated wicketkeeper in Test cricket.
Nine Sixes and Joining Elite Company
In his second innings, Pant also hit nine sixes, tying the record for the most sixes in a Test innings in England, a feat previously achieved by Ben Stokes and Andrew Flintoff. With his twin centuries, Pant has entered the exclusive club of Indian players who have scored two centuries in a Test match, joining the ranks of Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar (three times), Rahul Dravid (twice), Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, and Rohit Sharma.
Pant's consistency in England is becoming a defining feature of his red-ball career. He has recorded five consecutive scores of over fifty in the country, placing him in an elite group of visiting batsmen. Only Steven Smith has more such scores in England, with seven, while other notable players include Don Bradman, Hansie Cronje, Kumar Sangakkara, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, and Daryl Mitchell.
Historic Milestone for Indian Team
The Headingley Test also marked a significant achievement for the Indian team, as they recorded five centuries in a single match for the first time. Alongside Pant, KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shubman Gill also reached triple figures during the game. Pant's celebration was notably subdued this time, opting for a late offensive before being dismissed for 118.
