Rishabh Pant Faces Penalty for Over Rate Violation

Rishabh Pant, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has been penalized with a fine of INR 30 lakh due to his team's slow over rate during their final league match of IPL 2025 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. This match took place at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday.

This incident marked LSG's third over-rate violation of the season, leading to the imposition of stricter penalties as per the IPL's Code of Conduct.

"Rishabh Pant has been fined following his team's slow over-rate during Match No. 70 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Tuesday," stated the IPL in an official announcement.

This was Pant's third offence regarding over-rate this season, which resulted in a heightened penalty under the tournament's regulations.

"Due to the team's third offence of the season concerning minimum over-rate violations, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 Lakh," the statement elaborated.

It wasn't only Pant who faced repercussions for the slow over-rate.

"All other members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were fined either INR 12 Lakh or 50% of their match fees, whichever amount was lower."

Heartbreak for LSG After Playoff Elimination

The loss against RCB not only disappointed Rishabh Pant but also concluded a challenging season for LSG, which was plagued by injuries, inconsistent performances, and form issues. Despite Pant's impressive score of 118*, the team could not secure a win as Bengaluru successfully chased down 228 runs to clinch a playoff spot.

The slow over-rate was particularly evident during RCB's fast-paced innings, as both teams scored heavily in Lucknow. With this victory, RCB ascended to the second position and will face PBKS in Qualifier One, while GT is set to compete against MI in the Eliminator.
