Rinku Singh's New Role and Acknowledgments

Rinku Singh, a prominent cricketer for the Kolkata Knight Riders, expressed his gratitude towards the Uttar Pradesh government and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath after being appointed as a Regional Sports Officer under the state's sports quota initiative. In a heartfelt video shared on social media, the left-handed batsman thanked the officials for this opportunity and acknowledged the financial support of ₹3 crore provided to him.

At 26 years old, Rinku mentioned that his commitments with the Indian Premier League team prevented him from attending the ceremony for the distribution of appointment letters on Tuesday. However, he plans to visit Lucknow soon to formally accept the letter and seek blessings from the Chief Minister.

This appointment is part of a broader initiative by the state government to offer jobs to athletes who have excelled on international platforms. Among those recognized alongside Rinku is Rajkumar Pal, a hockey player who secured a bronze medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, who will take on the role of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). Other notable appointments include Praveen Kumar, a Paralympic gold medallist in high jump, and Ajit Singh, a silver medallist in javelin throw.

Despite missing the ceremony, Rinku's appreciation was conveyed by R P Singh, the Director of Sports, who noted that the cricketer would report to the sports directorate office in Lucknow when his schedule allows. Rinku's responsibilities will include administrative tasks alongside his cricket career. He has experienced significant growth in recent years, being part of India's victorious ICC Men's T20 World Cup team, even returning to the squad after attending his father's funeral.

On a personal note, Rinku is engaged to Priya Saroj, a member of parliament from the Samajwadi Party representing Machhlishahr. Chief Minister Adityanath also highlighted that Rinku was expected to attend the felicitation event at Lok Bhavan but could not due to prior commitments.
