Rex Thais Shines in Vietnam
Rex Thais from the United States showcased his remarkable talent by winning both the Under-18 Boys’ and Mixed Doubles championships at the PPA Tour Asia's inaugural event, the MB Hanoi Cup, held on April 6 at the My Dinh Indoor Athletics Arena in Hanoi, Vietnam. Partnering with Mackonner Dy, Rex triumphed in the U18 Boys’ doubles final, defeating Duc Lam Tran and Hung Nguyen with a score of 15-7 to claim the championship title. Duc and Hung took home the silver medal, while Hieu Duc and Ngoc Minh Dang secured bronze.
Rex further demonstrated his skills in the U18 Mixed Doubles final, where he teamed up with Minh Ngoc Nguyen to overcome Huong Dan Linh and Dung Nguyen Vu Anh in a thrilling match that ended 15-11. Minh and Huong earned silver, while Jolie Lam and Mackonner Dy finished with bronze.
Following his impressive double victory at the MB Hanoi Cup, Rex expressed his excitement about his achievements. He stated, "It was another great win, especially returning to the first PPA Tour Asia, and having it in Vietnam is incredible," during an Instagram conversation with Pickleball Now.
Rex also noted the increasing competitiveness among junior players, highlighting the narrowing gap between young talents and seasoned professionals. "The competition among juniors is escalating rapidly, and the distance between these kids and the pros is decreasing every day," he remarked.
Looking ahead, Rex shared his aspirations for the year, emphasizing his goal to participate in more high-level events and pro qualifiers. "To secure another win in juniors is amazing. I am grateful to my partners, sponsors, and parents for their unwavering support," he added.
