Investment Essential for West Indies' Cricket Revival

Sulieman Benn, a former spinner for the West Indies, emphasized the critical need for increased financial and infrastructural support to enhance the transition from grassroots cricket to the senior level. He expressed optimism about the natural talent within the West Indies team, asserting that they can reclaim their former glory once key logistical issues are resolved. The team has faced challenges in recent years, having not won an ICC trophy since their victory at the 2016 ICC World Twenty20.

Benn stated, "To bridge the gap from grassroots to senior cricket, we require both financial and infrastructural resources. Ensuring a smooth transition for players moving through the Under-15, Under-17, and Under-19 levels into the senior team is crucial, and this necessitates adequate investment." He added, "The West Indies have a rich cricketing heritage; addressing logistical challenges will enable us to return to the top of the game."

Insights from Recent ODI Series

Benn noted that the West Indies displayed promising performances during their recent ODI series against India, although their bowling and fielding fell short. He highlighted the importance of executing strategies effectively, particularly in understanding when to attack for wickets versus when to build pressure defensively. India won the three-match ODI series 2-1, with victories in the first two matches by eight wickets each, while the West Indies managed to secure a five-wicket win in the final match.

He remarked, "While we had some commendable performances, our bowling was inconsistent. We need to be more decisive about when to go for wickets and when to focus on defense. Our fielding also needs improvement. We possess talented bowlers; we just need to harmonize our efforts and execute our strategies more effectively."

West Indies Champions at WCL

Ajay Sethi, the owner of West Indies Champions, shared that his extensive professional relationships with former cricketers and global personalities facilitated the gathering of iconic players for the team. He credited his 25-year network for making this initiative a reality.

Sethi explained, "It's not overly complicated; it’s about the approach. My long-standing career has allowed me to meet many individuals and cultivate personal relationships. Over the years, I’ve formed friendships with people from various countries, including Australia, England, South Africa, and Pakistan. My friendship with Imran Khan is also noteworthy. With such a network, the effort to bring everyone together becomes much easier."

Star-Studded Lineup

The West Indies Champions team is captained by Chris Gayle and features a lineup of seasoned players, including Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Bravo, Carlos Brathwaite, and Chadwick Walton. The squad also comprises Jermaine Blackwood, Raymon Reifer, and Rayad Emrit, while the bowling unit includes experienced bowlers like Fidel Edwards, Sulieman Benn, and Dave Mohammed.
