Unprecedented Global Viewership Figures
Dubai [UAE], May 21: The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently announced remarkable broadcast viewership statistics following the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, which took place in Pakistan and the UAE. According to the ICC's release, the event achieved a staggering 368 billion global viewing minutes, marking it as the most-watched ICC Men’s Champions Trophy to date, with a 19% increase compared to the 2017 tournament held in England and Wales.
During the tournament, an impressive 308 million global viewing minutes were recorded per over, setting a new benchmark for ICC events.
The thrilling final in Dubai saw India secure victory over New Zealand on March 9, becoming the most viewed match in the history of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, with 65.3 billion live viewing minutes. This figure surpassed the previous record set during the 2017 final by 52.1%.
This exciting finale ranks as the third most-watched ICC match globally by live watch time. In India, it stands as the third most viewed ICC match ever, only behind the India vs. New Zealand semi-final at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 and the final between India and Australia.
The coverage in India was extensive, spanning 29 channels and nine languages, and included innovative features like the award-winning Indian Sign Language feed and Audio Descriptive Commentary. This inclusive approach contributed to making it the most-watched Champions Trophy in India.
Additionally, the tournament saw the highest percentage of viewing hours from digital platforms for any ICC event in India. The MaxView feed, developed in partnership with the ICC, offered an engaging mobile viewing experience.
Australia also witnessed a significant increase in viewership, with overall viewing hours rising by 65% compared to 2017. The introduction of a Hindi language feed enhanced coverage, leading to Amazon Prime Video achieving the highest viewership for any ICC event streamed exclusively on its platform.
In the USA, despite less favorable match timings, fans recorded a 38% increase in watch time compared to the 2017 tournament.
Jay Shah, the ICC Chairman, expressed his delight at the record-breaking global viewership, stating, “We are thrilled to announce that the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has set new records for global viewership, showcasing the growing appeal of cricket and the strength of our partnerships.”
He also acknowledged the innovative efforts by the JioStar network in India, which provided live coverage across 29 unique broadcast feeds in nine languages, significantly enhancing audience reach and engagement.
Shah noted the impressive growth in markets like Australia, where Amazon Prime Video saw a 65% increase in viewership compared to the 2017 edition, and in the United States, where Willow TV experienced a notable rise in audience numbers despite challenging match timings.
These achievements highlight the expanding reach of cricket and the passion of fans around the world.
Although the host nation fell short of winning back-to-back titles, viewership in Pakistan increased by 24% compared to their 2017 trophy-winning campaign.
