Unprecedented Viewership Figures

Dubai [UAE], March 21: The ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 has set new benchmarks in viewership across India, achieving the highest TV ratings ever recorded for a multi-nation cricket tournament. This remarkable surge surpassed the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 by an impressive 23 percent.

The event's live broadcast amassed a staggering total of 137 billion minutes on Star Sports and 110 billion minutes on JioHotstar. This phenomenal viewership was largely driven by a thrilling final match between India and New Zealand, which took place in Dubai on March 9, attracting a peak concurrency of 122 million viewers on television and 61 million on JioHotstar, marking a new record for digital cricket viewership, as reported by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Additionally, the final match became the second-highest-rated ODI in television history (excluding ICC Cricket World Cup matches), with 230 million viewers tuning in and a total of 53 billion minutes of watch-time across both TV and digital platforms.

ICC Chair Jay Shah expressed his excitement about the Champions Trophy's return after an eight-year hiatus, noting the overwhelming viewership numbers from India, particularly for the final match.

Shah stated, “These incredible viewership figures underscore cricket's immense popularity in India and demonstrate how presenting ICC events in various languages can significantly enhance fan engagement. The successful marketing strategy for the Champions Trophy has clearly generated excitement among both existing and new fans, complemented by thrilling cricket throughout the tournament.”

Sanjog Gupta, CEO of Sports at Jio Star, attributed this achievement to the extensive reach of their multi-platform sports destination and the engaging storytelling approach of JioStar's 'mega-casts' combined with advanced technological capabilities.

He added, “The tournament's appeal was amplified by a unique cohort-based marketing strategy that effectively targeted diverse audience segments across various devices. India's unbeaten title-winning journey further ignited fan passion, contributing to the spike in viewership for the final.”

The highly anticipated match between traditional rivals India and Pakistan became one of the most-watched ODIs in India, accumulating over 26 billion minutes of watch-time on linear TV, according to the Broadcast Audience Research Council.

This match achieved a remarkable 10.8 percent higher television rating compared to the India-Pakistan clash in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, which garnered 19.5 billion linear viewing minutes, while the Champions Trophy match reached 26.5 billion minutes.

Played in front of a packed audience in Dubai on February 23, the match attracted a record 206 million viewers on linear TV, as India continued its dominance over Pakistan in global ICC events, with superstar Virat Kohli leading the team to a memorable six-wicket victory.

The impressive viewership figures can be attributed to JioStar's extensive coverage, with channels broadcasting the matches live in multiple languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada on Star Sports and Sports 18 channels.

On digital platforms, the tournament was streamed live across a record 16 feeds, featuring nine languages—English, Hindi, Marathi, Haryanvi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada—along with four multi-camera feeds, an Indian Sign Language feed, and the Max View feed on JioHotstar.

Fans were highly engaged with the tournament through captivating programming leading up to and during the event.
