RCB and DNA Entertainment Seek to Dismiss FIR Following Tragic Stampede

Legal Action After Tragedy

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team, owned by Royal Challengers Sports Limited (RCSL), along with event organizer DNA Entertainment Networks Private Limited, has approached the Karnataka High Court to request the cancellation of the FIR filed against them following a tragic stampede that occurred outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4. This unfortunate incident resulted in the loss of 11 lives.

RCSL Denies Wrongdoing

In their petition, RCSL contends that they were not responsible for the crowd mismanagement that led to the stampede. The company asserts that it had made a clear public announcement via social media indicating that only a limited number of passes were available for the Vijay Utsav event, and that even free passes required prior registration. They further claimed that the delay in opening the stadium gates—from the scheduled time of 1:45 PM to 3:00 PM—contributed to the overwhelming crowd surge.

DNA Entertainment Blames Police for Mismanagement

In a separate petition, DNA Entertainment Networks attributed the incident to the failure of police and state officials to manage the large crowd of over 300,000 attendees. The petition highlighted that inadequate police presence and the use of batons caused panic among the crowd, leading to the stampede on public roads and sidewalks outside the stadium. The company also noted that most police forces were deployed at the Vidhana Soudha, leaving the stadium area under-policed.
