Rajat Patidar, the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), stressed the significance of securing a top-two finish in the IPL standings. He pointed out the necessity for the team to recuperate swiftly, particularly during travel, and noted the positive attitude and recovery of the squad following their recent match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
In a remarkable performance, stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma led RCB to a convincing six-wicket victory over LSG in their final group stage match of the 18th IPL season.
Patidar Highlights the Importance of Top Two Finish
With this victory, RCB secured the second position in the points table, amassing 19 points, and has qualified for Qualifier-1, where they will face Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Thursday.
"Finishing in the top two was crucial for us. It was part of our strategy, and achieving this is a significant boost for RCB. Given the limited time before our next match, we will focus on quick recovery and rest during travel. The team is in a positive mindset and recovering well from the last game in Lucknow," Patidar stated in a press release.
Hazlewood Discusses RCB's Strategy Ahead of Qualifier 1
RCB bowler Josh Hazlewood also emphasized the importance of finishing in the top two, which provides the team with a second opportunity. He recognized Punjab Kings as a formidable opponent, especially on their home turf, where they have a competitive edge.
"Being in the top two is vital. In this format, having two chances is beneficial. If a team falters, they could be eliminated after leading for so long. Punjab Kings is a tough competitor, and playing at their home ground, where they have played numerous matches this season, gives them an advantage," Hazlewood remarked.
