Texas, USA - July 15: Rayan Cherki, the French midfielder, expressed profound disappointment following France's 2-0 loss to Spain in the FIFA World Cup semifinal. He emphasized that the team's downfall stemmed from their own performance rather than the strength of their opponents, as reported by a sports media outlet.

In the aftermath of France's elimination, Cherki acknowledged that the players did not live up to their own expectations, labeling the defeat as self-inflicted.

"This is an enormous disappointment. We lost to ourselves today. It wasn't the referee or Spain that defeated us; it was our own shortcomings. Everyone knew we were a formidable team, but ultimately, we were our own worst enemy. Today is a tough day," Cherki stated.

When asked about France's shortcomings in the semifinal, he noted that they were outperformed in every facet of the match.

"We were outclassed technically, tactically, and in physical duels. This is a significant disappointment," he added.

Spain showcased a strong performance at Dallas Stadium, combining solid defense with effective finishing, a stark contrast to their earlier matches, to secure their place in the final.

Mikel Oyarzabal opened the scoring with a penalty after Lucas Digne fouled Lamine Yamal, while Pedro Porro sealed the victory with a well-placed shot following a brilliant assist from Dani Olmo.

Porro's outstanding display earned him the Player of the Match title.

With this victory, Spain advances to the World Cup final, where they will face either England or Argentina at the New York-New Jersey Stadium on Sunday.

Spain's last World Cup final appearance was in 2010, where they triumphed over the Netherlands thanks to a goal from Andres Iniesta in extra time.
