Jadeja's Cryptic Response to BCCI Announcement

Ravindra Jadeja, the seasoned Indian all-rounder, shared a mysterious comment shortly after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Ajit Agarkar's departure from his role as chief selector. Agarkar's term as the head of the senior men's selection committee concluded on October 4, having started in July 2023 without seeking an extension. Under his leadership, India secured three ICC titles: the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2024, the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, and another ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2026. Following the BCCI's announcement of a vacancy in the selection committee, Jadeja humorously inquired, "What's the procedure?" accompanied by a laughing emoji.

Jadeja's Recent Performance in ODIs

This comment comes on the heels of Jadeja's return to the ODI squad for the three-match series against the West Indies, after missing earlier ODIs against Afghanistan and England this year. In his two recent matches, he recorded bowling figures of 2/75 and 0/54 over 10 overs.

In his last 15 ODIs since 2025, Jadeja has accumulated 149 runs in 10 innings, averaging 29.80, with a top score of 32 and a strike rate exceeding 95. His bowling has seen a slight decline, with only 14 wickets taken in 15 matches at an average of 47.93, his best figures being 3/26. This year, he has managed just two wickets in five matches and scored 43 runs in three innings, with a highest score of 27.

Jadeja's Role in Test Matches

Despite the emergence of young spinners like Manav Suthar, Jadeja remains a crucial part of India's Test team. In the two Tests against Sri Lanka, he scored 65 runs across three innings, with a best of 43, and took eight wickets at an average of 33.57, achieving best figures of 3/57.

His participation in the upcoming five ODIs against New Zealand starting November 22, along with two subsequent Tests, is still uncertain as the squads have yet to be announced.

Support from Coaching Staff for Future Tournaments

Before the first ODI against the West Indies, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak expressed his support for Jadeja's inclusion in the 2027 ODI World Cup, highlighting his all-round skills and experience. Kotak stated, "I think he is obviously in the mix," while acknowledging that he is not part of the selection committee and is unaware of their considerations. He emphasized that any player representing India is likely among the 20-25 candidates for the World Cup team.

Kotak praised Jadeja's fielding prowess and batting capabilities, stating, "Jadeja is an outstanding all-rounder. His records speak for themselves. The team's composition will depend on the selectors, captain, and head coach, but Jadeja remains one of the best fielders globally. His experience is invaluable, akin to that of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, making him a significant asset to the team."
