Ravindra Jadeja Praises Shubman Gill's Historic Double Century in Test Match

Jadeja Commends Gill's Performance
Birmingham [UK], July 4: Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja expressed his admiration for captain Shubman Gill's remarkable double century during the second day of the Test match. Jadeja noted that Gill's batting did not reflect the added pressure of captaincy, stating that it seemed unlikely he would be dismissed.
Gill delivered an exceptional performance, scoring 269 runs off 387 balls, which helped India reach a total of 587. Following this, England struggled, finding themselves at 25/3 before finishing the day at 77/3, with Joe Root (18*) and Harry Brook (30*) at the crease. Gill's innings included a significant 203-run partnership with Jadeja, who contributed 89 runs off 107 balls, and a 144-run partnership with Washington Sundar (42 off 103 balls).
In the post-match press conference, Jadeja remarked on Gill's confidence, saying, “He doesn’t appear to be burdened by captaincy while batting. He carries the extra responsibility well. Today, I felt he would not get out. He played exceptionally well, and we discussed maintaining a long partnership while batting together.”
Jadeja also shared insights about his discussions with 13-year-old Kuldeep Yadav, emphasizing the importance of team balance and expressing confidence that Kuldeep would be a valuable wicket-taking option if given the opportunity.
Regarding the pitch conditions, Jadeja mentioned that the surface has not provided much assistance to spinners. He emphasized the need for bowlers to maintain the right field placements and bowl accurately to challenge the batsmen.
“I haven’t seen any ball spin in two days. As the match progresses, I hope spinners will receive more assistance from the pitch. The pressure of the scoreboard will also weigh on the batsmen as the game continues,” he concluded.
