Ravindra Jadeja Falls Short of Century as India Dominates Day 2 at Edgbaston

Jadeja's Impressive Knock Cut Short
Ravindra Jadeja, the all-rounder, was dismissed just 11 runs shy of what would have been his fifth Test century, as England finally made a breakthrough just before Lunch on Day 2 of the second Test at Edgbaston. Starting the day with 41 runs, Jadeja formed a crucial 203-run partnership for the sixth wicket alongside Shubman Gill.
The left-handed batsman reached his fifty off 80 deliveries, showcasing his comfort at the crease with a paddle shot. He even hit Shoaib Bashir for a massive six straight down the ground, signaling his intent. However, it was an unexpected bouncer from Josh Tongue that ended his innings.
Tongue, bowling from around the wicket, delivered a short ball that surprised Jadeja. Attempting to evade it while jumping in the crease, he could only manage to glove it to wicketkeeper Jamie Smith. Jadeja concluded his innings with 89 runs off 137 balls, including 10 fours and a six.
Shubman Gill Nears Double Century
Meanwhile, Captain Shubman Gill continued to accumulate runs at the other end. He surpassed 150 with a series of boundaries, playing a pivotal role in maintaining the momentum for India. By the time lunch arrived, Gill was unbeaten on 168, inching closer to his first Test double century.
India, who began the day at 310/5, had progressed to 419/6, largely thanks to the partnership between Gill and Jadeja. Despite their strong position, the team remains wary of the lower order's collapse that had cost them in the first Test.
With only Washington Sundar left at the crease and the tail enders to follow, India is eager to avoid a repeat of the Headingley scenario, where they lost their last five wickets without adding any runs. England, on the other hand, will be eager to capitalize on Jadeja's dismissal and aim to wrap up the innings quickly, hoping to restrict India to under 500 runs.
