Ravindra Jadeja Expresses Desire to Captain Indian Test Team
Jadeja's Aspirations for Leadership
Despite not being a frontrunner among captaincy candidates, seasoned all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has expressed his ambition to lead the Indian Test team one day. Having played under various captains throughout his extensive career, he feels well-equipped for the role. For the upcoming tour of England, young batsman Shubman Gill has been appointed as the captain of the Indian Test squad, with Rishabh Pant serving as the vice-captain. When asked if he aspires to be the Test captain, the 36-year-old Jadeja responded affirmatively on former cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin's YouTube channel, stating, 'Yes, absolutely.'
Over the years, Jadeja has gained insights into different captaincy styles and understands the mindset and desires of players. He made his Test debut for India in 2012 under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and he has also played for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL under Dhoni's leadership.
Jadeja noted, 'Every captain has their unique style. I have played under Mahendra Singh Dhoni in all formats, and his approach is quite straightforward. If he believes a batsman can hit a shot in a specific area, he will place a fielder there.' Following Rohit Sharma's retirement from Test cricket, Ashwin had previously endorsed Jadeja as a potential captain.

He further elaborated on his YouTube channel, stating, 'Why do we forget about Ravindra Jadeja? If a new captain is needed, I would suggest appointing an experienced player for two years before handing over the reins to someone new.' Jadeja also mentioned that captaincy in T20 cricket is more challenging than in Test matches.
'In Test cricket, you need to adjust two or three fielders based on the bowler's requirements, not the batsman's. Captaincy in Test cricket is different; it doesn't require as much strategizing. It's not as complicated as in the IPL or T20, where every ball is crucial.'
