Ravindra Jadeja's Thoughts on His Nickname

During a candid conversation on Ash Ki Baat, Ravindra Jadeja shared his feelings about the nickname 'Sir Jadeja,' which has been associated with him for years. In his discussion with Ravichandran Ashwin, Jadeja expressed that he finds the title uncomfortable and feels it carries a mocking tone. He stated,

"When I hear 'sir,' it feels like a joke. I can't shake the image that people are teasing me. I'm not fond of being called 'sir.'"

The nickname originated from MS Dhoni in 2013 and gained traction after Jadeja's pivotal performance that helped the Chennai Super Kings secure a narrow victory against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. In a tweet, MS remarked,

"If you give Sir Jadeja 2 runs to score from 1 ball, he will win it with the ball left."

Since then, fans and teammates have frequently referred to him as 'Sir.' However, Jadeja has previously mentioned that he prefers to be called by his name or sometimes 'Bapu.'

Jadeja Reflects on His Relationship with MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli

Jadeja's connection with MS Dhoni is profound and personal. He credits Dhoni for his guidance on the field and the trust he placed in him during crucial moments. Drawing a parallel with his father, Mahendra Singh Chauhan, Jadeja remarked,

"I told Mahi bhai that my cricketing journey began with Mahendra Singh Chauhan and reached its peak with Mahendra Singh Dhoni."

He reminisced about his unforgettable experiences during the IPL 2023 final, where CSK required 10 runs off the last two balls, and he successfully delivered. He shared,

"When CSK needed 10 off 2, it was my chance to repay the team's faith in me. Fortunately, I managed to secure the win with two boundaries. The way Mahi Bhai embraced and lifted me was truly emotional."

This moment was so significant that it was reflected in his Instagram profile picture. Additionally, Jadeja expressed admiration for Virat Kohli's aggressive captaincy style, particularly in Test matches, stating,

"His positive mindset, especially in Tests, was remarkable. Virat never backs down, whether it's a three-hour session or 45 overs left; he always aims to take all 10 wickets of the opposition."

Following the retirements of Kohli, Ashwin, and Rohit Sharma, Jadeja remains the last member of the original group of Indian Test cricketers. He aspires to lead his team in Test matches at least once before he retires.
