Ashwin Addresses CSK's Purchase of Brevis
Former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has openly discussed the Chennai Super Kings' acquisition of Dewald Brevis during the IPL 2025 season. He emphasized that there was no wrongdoing involved, noting that player replacements due to injuries are a common occurrence in the league. Ashwin further stated that every team is taking advantage of the flexibility provided by the replacement rules due to injuries.
Previously, Ashwin had mentioned that CSK had allegedly made some under-the-table payments to secure Brevis, prompting a clarification from the franchise. On Saturday, August 16, CSK responded to these claims, providing their side of the story.
In light of the controversy, Ashwin felt the need to clarify his statements. On his YouTube channel, he remarked that we live in a time where even true stories require explanations, which can be challenging. However, he chose not to delve deeper into the matter. He reiterated that no one is at fault here, including the player, the franchise, or possibly even the governing body. This clarification was necessary due to the doubts expressed by many. The crux of the issue is that there is no blame to be placed on the player, the franchise, or the governing body.
Ashwin further explained that when a franchise needs a player, they communicate with that player or their agent and inform the BCCI, stating that a specific player is injured and they require another player. The matter is resolved at that point.
