Ravichandran Ashwin, a former off-spinner for India, has expressed his belief that MS Dhoni is the perfect choice to step in as head coach of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) following the departure of long-time mentor Stephen Fleming.

Fleming concluded his 18-year tenure with CSK, which began when he played in the inaugural IPL season in 2008 and transitioned to a coaching role in 2009. His exit comes after a tough period for the franchise, which has not reached the playoffs for three consecutive IPL seasons and finished last in the Major League Cricket.

"Fleming had a deep understanding of what motivated Dhoni, and Dhoni recognized Fleming as an excellent lieutenant. Their partnership was long-lasting, and it’s time for CSK to explore new options," Ashwin remarked to a sports media outlet.

"If Dhoni is open to the idea, he would be the best candidate for CSK. Otherwise, they should seek someone who can operate independently and take responsibility for their decisions," he added.
