Ravi Shastri's Witty Response to Fan's Tea Request During Edgbaston Test

Ravi Shastri's Humorous Interaction at Edgbaston Test

Ravi Shastri, the former captain of India and now a commentator, provided a comical reply to a fan's suggestion for him to enjoy tea during the final day of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on July 6.

The start of Day 5 was hindered by heavy rain, resulting in the loss of 10 overs and an hour and a half in the morning session. England resumed their chase of 608 runs, starting at 72/3 after 16 overs, with Ollie Pope and Harry Brook at the crease, needing 536 runs to secure victory.

Meanwhile, Team India aimed to take the remaining seven wickets after Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj's impressive bowling dismissed Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Joe Root, leaving England at 50/3 in just over 10 overs. India's strong performance in both batting and bowling put them in a favorable position by the end of Day 4.

As the rain delay ended and Day 5 commenced, a fan in the stands held up a sign humorously asking Shastri if he wanted tea. This occurred during the 20th over of England's innings when a camera focused on the fan's poster that read, 'Shastri, do you want chai?'

Kumar Sangakkara, Shastri's fellow commentator, relayed the message, prompting Shastri to respond with a laugh, 'Oh yeah, get some Masala Chai, boy. Just get it nice and spicy.'

This amusing exchange quickly gained traction on social media, with many fans sharing the moment.

Throughout the four days of the Edgbaston Test, Team India demonstrated their dominance over England, excelling in both batting and bowling, setting the stage for a potential historic win at a venue that has not favored them in the past 58 years.

Ben Stokes and Jamie Smith Steady England's Innings

As India resumed their bowling in the second innings, aiming to defend the 608 runs and secure a historic win, pacer Akash Deep continued his impressive form by taking out Ollie Pope (24) and Harry Brook (23), leaving England struggling at 83/5 after 21.3 overs.

However, the momentum shifted slightly when Jamie Smith joined Ben Stokes at the crease. The duo adopted a cautious yet counter-attacking strategy to keep the scoreboard moving, as chasing the massive target proved to be a daunting task for the hosts.

Despite the early breakthroughs by Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj could not capitalize, allowing Stokes and Smith to stabilize England's innings. They formed a crucial 70-run partnership for the sixth wicket until Washington Sundar provided a vital breakthrough by dismissing Stokes for 33, leaving England at 153/6.

At the conclusion of the first session, England had reached 153/6, with Jamie Smith scoring 32 runs off 53 balls, while needing 455 runs to win. India, on the other hand, required just four more wickets to clinch victory at Edgbaston.
