Ranchi Royals Secure a Convincing Victory
Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], December 30: In a commanding performance, Ranchi Royals triumphed over Shrachi Bengal Tigers with a score of 5-0 during their second match of the Women's Hockey India League (HIL) 2025-26 Season at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Astro Turf Stadium on Tuesday.
Goals were scored by Lucina von der Heyde (33', 57'), Hannah Cotter (10'), Beauty Dungdung (14'), and Sangita Kumari (44'). The Royals began the match with strong ball control, generating numerous scoring opportunities. By halftime, they had made 17 entries into the circle, showcasing their offensive strength.
In the fifth minute, Ranchi Royals earned their first penalty corner but failed to convert as Sabine Plonissen's attempt was blocked. However, they quickly found the net in the 10th minute when Hannah Cotter capitalized on a deflection from a pass by Sakshi Rana, giving them an early lead.
Shortly after, the Shrachi Bengal Tigers earned a penalty corner but could not capitalize on the opportunity. In the 14th minute, Ranchi Royals secured another penalty corner, which was converted by Beauty Dungdung, extending their lead to two goals after she reacted quickly to a rebound.
The second quarter saw the Royals maintain their momentum, effectively utilizing the flanks to create chances, while the Bengal Tigers defended resolutely. Jennifer Rizzo made key saves towards the end of the first half, stopping attempts from Augustina Albertarrio and Sakshi Rana.
As the third quarter began, Ranchi Royals struck again. Lucina von der Heyde (33') dribbled down the left, passing to Rutuja Dadaso Pisal, who set her up perfectly for a deflected shot into the goal.
In the 44th minute, Sangita Kumari (44') added another goal, receiving a well-placed pass from Maria Sofia Darnay and easily scoring in front of the home crowd.
Despite efforts from the Shrachi Bengal Tigers to score a consolation goal in the final quarter, Ranchi Royals held firm, relying on counterattacks. With just four minutes remaining, they earned another penalty corner, which Lucina von der Heyde converted, sealing the match with a fifth goal.
