Jaipur, Nov 6: In a significant move for athletes in Rajasthan, the Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma-led government has sanctioned out-of-turn appointments for 235 athletes who have won medals, including 73 para-athletes. Among these, nine will be designated as Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), while the remaining will be assigned roles in various government sectors.
This decision was made during the seventh meeting of the state-level committee, which was presided over by Chief Secretary V. Srinivas at the Government Secretariat.
The committee evaluated 286 applications from both general and para-athletes, ultimately approving the appointment of 235 individuals.
The aim of these appointments is to honor the accomplishments of athletes who have excelled in national and international competitions, providing them with government jobs as a form of recognition.
The approved appointments are categorized into three groups. Category A includes nine athletes selected for DSP positions. In Category B, two athletes will join the Excise Department, with one serving as a Patrolling Officer and the other as a Sub-Inspector.
Category C sees the highest number of appointments, with 224 athletes set to enter various government roles, including Clerk Grade-II, Constable, Excise Constable, Excise Guard, and Deputy Jailor.
Notably, Category C features 73 para-athletes, ensuring that those who have excelled in para-sports also gain from this employment initiative.
Since December 2023, the Rajasthan government has already granted out-of-turn appointments to 187 medal-winning athletes. With the recent approval of 235 more proposals, this initiative is poised to expand further.
The policy is designed to promote sporting excellence by providing job opportunities to athletes in recognition of their achievements in competitions at both national and international levels. The committee also addressed issues faced by athletes currently employed in the Forest Department.
Officials discussed the challenges these athletes encounter during their service and reviewed a plan to tackle their concerns.
Additionally, proposals were made to allow a one-time relaxation of service rules to assist their transition to other departments as needed.
These proposed actions are anticipated to alleviate the difficulties faced by athletes in the Forest Department and enhance the utilization of their sporting talents and professional skills.
