Raipur Set for 2nd ODI; CM Expresses Delight
Following India's impressive victory in the first ODI held in Ranchi, attention now turns to the second match of the series, scheduled to take place in Raipur. Chhattisgarh's Chief Minister, Vishnu Deo Sai, expressed his enthusiasm, stating that the state is privileged to host an international cricket event.
Regarding the upcoming India-South Africa match, the Chief Minister remarked, "Chhattisgarh is fortunate to have an international cricket match on December 3rd. We all look forward to enjoying this event."
Venue Overview
The match will occur at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, which has previously hosted two international matches. Earlier in 2023, the venue saw India triumph over New Zealand in an ODI, followed by a T20I against Australia, which India won by 20 runs. This upcoming match will mark Raipur's third international fixture and the second ODI at this stadium.
Recap: India's Victory in the First ODI
In the Ranchi encounter, South Africa opted to field first. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed early after a promising start, scoring 18 runs off 16 balls. Rohit Sharma, with a solid 57 runs from 51 balls, and Virat Kohli formed a remarkable partnership, adding 136 runs for the second wicket. However, India faced a middle-order collapse, losing Rohit, Ruturaj Gaikwad (8), and Washington Sundar (13) quickly, leaving them at 200/4. A crucial 76-run partnership between KL Rahul (60 off 56 balls) and Virat, followed by a 65-run stand between KL and Jadeja (32 off 20 balls), propelled India to a total of 349/8 in their 50 overs.
Proteas' Determined Chase
In their chase, South Africa struggled initially, losing three wickets to Indian pacers and finding themselves at 11/3. A partnership of 66 runs between Tony de Zorzi (39 off 37 balls) and Matthew Breetzke provided some stability. Dewald Brevis contributed a quick 37 runs off 28 balls, but South Africa was soon at 130/5.
A significant 97-run partnership between Breetzke (72 off 80 balls) and Marco Jansen (80 off 39 balls) posed a threat to India's victory. However, Kuldeep Yadav's timely wickets of both players reduced South Africa to 227/8. Corbin Bosch (67 off 51 balls) kept the chase alive but ultimately, South Africa fell short by 17 runs. Harshit Rana also performed well with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 65 runs.
With this victory, India leads the three-match ODI series 1-0.
