Rahul Dravid Shares Insights on His Note-Taking During IPL Matches

Rahul Dravid's Coaching Journey with Rajasthan Royals
Rahul Dravid, the head coach of Rajasthan Royals (RR), has recently discussed his note-taking habits during IPL 2025 matches. Frequently spotted with a notepad and pen in the dugout, Dravid writes as the game unfolds.
Appointed as the head coach prior to IPL 2025, Dravid took over from Kumar Sangakkara, who transitioned to the role of Director of Cricket Operations. The Rajasthan Royals sought Dravid for his impressive track record as the head coach of Team India, where he led the team to a T20 World Cup victory and a notable Test series draw against South Africa.
Unfortunately, Dravid's initial season with the Royals has not been ideal, as the team was among the first to exit the tournament this season.
Dravid Explains His Unique Scoring Method
In an interview with a Media Channel before the match against Chennai Super Kings in Delhi, Dravid elaborated on his personalized scoring technique. He mentioned that this method aids him in analyzing crucial moments without depending on the official scorecard.
"I have a specific way of scoring both T20 and one-day matches. This approach allows me to review the game later effectively. While I can refer to the scorecard, my method is tailored to my comfort and ease of review," the 52-year-old coach explained.
"At times, after a game, I reflect on specific overs or phases of the match," he added.

Dravid's Humble Approach to Note-Taking
Before stepping into the coaching role, Dravid played for Rajasthan Royals from 2011 to 2013, scoring 1324 runs with an average of 27.02 across 52 matches. He also represented Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2008 to 2010, amassing a total of 2174 runs in his IPL career.
Discussing his note-taking further, Dravid emphasized that his method is straightforward and not overly complicated. He stated, "I have a particular format that differs slightly from the standard scorecard, making it easier for me to think and review the game. It's not complex or groundbreaking; it's as simple as it gets."
Currently, the Rajasthan Royals sit in ninth place with only three wins from 13 matches, totaling six points. Their season will conclude following the match against Chennai Super Kings at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
