Rahul Chaveria: Empowering Underprivileged Youth Through Sports
A Passion for Coaching
Rahul Chaveria, a 31-year-old former bank employee, has dedicated his life to uplifting underprivileged children through sports. Leaving behind a secure job, he pursued his passion for coaching talented youth who lack access to training opportunities.
Early Beginnings
Rahul's journey in sports began during his school years, where he started coaching peers in 2010, just two years after he began playing. He expressed, 'Coaching has always brought me joy. Teaching others has given me immense satisfaction since I started.'
Community Engagement
While living in Nawanshahr, he joined the Daily Morning Football Club, where he began mentoring young athletes. Additionally, he established a small club aimed at training children from slum areas, single-parent families, and households of daily wage workers and rickshaw pullers.
Rahul mentioned, 'I do not charge those with talent who cannot afford coaching. For others, the fee is only Rs 1,000.'
Expanding His Mission
After relocating to Chandigarh, Rahul intensified his efforts by founding the Joy and Jolly Sports Association, employing coaches to train children in various sports disciplines.
Over the years, he has mentored over 600 young athletes, many of whom have progressed to compete at state and national levels. To discover new talent, he frequently visits local grounds, providing training opportunities to promising youngsters.
Celebrating with a Match
Recently, Rahul returned to Nawanshahr to celebrate his birthday in a memorable fashion by playing a friendly football match with the Daily Morning Football Club. The match, organized with the help of Tarsem Lal, Deputy Mass Media Education & Information Officer, featured a contest between the Aur Block Football Club and the Daily Morning Football Club Nawanshahr.
The Daily Morning Football Club showcased strong teamwork in the first half, with Rahul playing a pivotal role. Despite a comeback from the Aur Block Football Club in the second half, Nawanshahr clinched a 2–1 victory.
Ongoing Contributions
Ajay Mehra, president of the club, praised Rahul's unwavering commitment to the community. He noted that while Rahul remains actively involved with the Daily Morning Football Club, his Joy and Jolly Football Association in Chandigarh continues to support underprivileged and talented children, furthering his noble mission.
