Rahmanullah Gurbaz's Explosive Century Leads Afghanistan to 194 Against India
Gurbaz's Explosive Performance Shines in ODI
In the first ODI against India held at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, Afghanistan posted a total of 194 runs, thanks to a remarkable century from Rahmanullah Gurbaz, along with solid contributions from Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai.
Match Overview
The match was reduced to 25 overs per side due to rain, with each team permitted to use a maximum of five bowlers, each allowed to bowl up to five overs. India introduced debutants Harsh Dubey and Gurnoor Brar, who made an immediate impact by taking three wickets each.
Afghanistan's Early Struggles
Afghanistan's innings began shakily as openers Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran took to the field. Gurnoor Brar quickly made his mark by dismissing Ibrahim for just one run, bringing Sediqullah Atal to bat.
India maintained pressure, with Arshdeep Singh removing Atal for a duck, leaving Afghanistan in a precarious position.
Gurbaz's Counterattack
Despite the early setbacks, Gurbaz countered effectively, playing aggressively and keeping the scoreboard moving. After Arshdeep dismissed Rahmat Shah for just three runs, Hashmatullah Shahidi joined Gurbaz, and together they formed a crucial partnership.
By the end of the first ten overs, Afghanistan had recovered to 79/3, largely due to Gurbaz's impressive half-century.
Gurbaz's Century
After reaching his fifty, Gurbaz accelerated his scoring, attacking the Indian bowlers with a flurry of boundaries. He reached his ninth ODI century in the 15th over, finishing with 102 runs off just 51 balls, including eight fours and six sixes.
The partnership between Gurbaz and Shahidi yielded 116 runs off 66 balls, marking the second-best century stand for Afghanistan in ODIs.
Bowling Performance from India
Harsh Dubey, another debutant, took the wicket of Afghanistan's captain Shahidi for 27 in the 17th over. Following this, Nitish Reddy dismissed Mohammad Nabi for 9 after a brief partnership.
Dubey then struck twice in quick succession, removing Azmatullah Omarzai for 26 and AM Ghazanfar for a duck, leaving Zia Ur Rahman Sharifi to bat.
In the final over, Gurnoor Brar secured his second wicket by dismissing Rashid Khan for 9 and later took Sharifi for 4, concluding Afghanistan's innings at 194.
Next Steps for India
To win the match and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series, India needs to chase down a target of 195 runs in their allotted 25 overs.
