Nadal Clarifies His Position on Real Madrid Presidency

New Delhi [India] - Tennis icon Rafael Nadal has refuted claims suggesting he might run for the presidency of Real Madrid, stating that such rumors are unfounded.

On social media, Nadal expressed, "I have come across reports linking me to a potential candidacy for the Real Madrid presidency. I want to clarify that these claims are not accurate," as reported by a prominent sports network.

He mentioned that he had previously attempted to quell speculation after his name was associated with Enrique Riquelme's potential candidacy.

While he acknowledged his amicable relationship with Riquelme, Nadal emphasized his deep respect for the current president of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez, and the work he has done for the club.

"I wanted to address the speculation directly. I noticed my name being linked to Enrique Riquelme's candidacy. While I appreciate the connection, I have great respect for Florentino and all that he represents," Nadal stated.

Nadal expressed his desire to avoid unnecessary rumors, clarifying that football is a separate realm for him and that he is not pursuing any administrative role in the sport.

"I didn't want to contribute to speculation about something I'm not part of. To clarify — I'm not involved in that world, and I wanted to make it clear that my focus is elsewhere," he added.

The Spanish tennis star, a devoted football enthusiast, supports both Real Madrid and Mallorca. Reflecting on recent events at Real Madrid, Nadal acknowledged that the club has faced challenges but noted that such ups and downs are part of sports.

"I love football and am passionate about it; I support both Madrid and Mallorca. It has been a tough time for Madrid. We must recognize that things haven't gone well. This is part of sports — mistakes happen, and it's important to acknowledge them after years of making the right choices," Nadal remarked.

He also mentioned that elections are on the horizon, and it will be up to the members to decide whether to continue their support or consider alternatives for leadership.

Following Real Madrid's defeat to their rivals Barcelona, which allowed Barcelona to secure the La Liga title, President Florentino Perez announced that he has instructed the electoral board to initiate the election process for the club's leadership roles.

"I have asked the electoral board to commence the election process for the board of directors, which we, the current board, will be participating in. I want to ensure everyone knows that the elections are open to all, and anyone can run as I did. I prefer not to seek the spotlight," he stated.
